Over retail
Also called above retail, market premium
Over retail describes a watch trading on the secondary market for more than its brand-set retail price, usually because new examples are hard to buy from authorised dealers.
Premiums over retail can be large and can also shrink quickly when supply improves or demand cools. A dealer buying at a premium carries that risk while the watch is in stock.
When you pay over retail, keep your hold time short and your sale estimate conservative, and watch how completed sale prices are trending rather than relying on last month's highs.
