Break-even

Also called break-even price, breakeven

Break-even is the point at which a deal covers all its costs and makes no profit. Before you buy, it's the most you could pay and not lose money; after you buy, it's the lowest sale price that recovers what the watch cost you.

Knowing both gives you the floor under every negotiation. The space between your target and break-even is the room you have to give, and you should know exactly how much it is.

Because carrying cost keeps adding up while a watch sits, a watch's break-even sale price rises the longer you hold it.
