Matching serials

Also called matching numbers

Matching serials means the serial number on a watch agrees with the number on its papers, and, where relevant, on other documents such as receipts or service records.

A match supports the watch's documented history and is part of why papers add value. A mismatch isn't automatically fraud, since papers are sometimes mixed up innocently, but it removes the value the papers would add and needs an explanation.

Photograph the papers beside the watch's serial at intake as a record that they matched when you bought it.
