Hour markers
Also called indices, indexes
Hour markers, or indices, are the marks on the dial that show the hours, whether printed, applied as separate metal pieces, or filled with luminous material.
Their style, material, and condition help identify a reference and judge originality. Loose or missing applied markers can rattle inside the case and damage the dial and hands.
Check that the markers are secure, consistent with the reference, and that their lume matches the hands.
Markers that are discoloured, cracked, or have lost lume are usually cosmetic, but they affect how a buyer judges the dial, so describe them accurately.
