What the differences cost you

Each note below follows from the published figures in the tables above — what they mean for intake, for a listing, and for the handover. Nothing here estimates a price or a margin.

Do not describe these the same way

The 52508 is rated to 50 metres and the 127334 to 100. A rating is a factory figure for a new watch with fresh gaskets, not a promise about a used one — but the gap still matters in writing. Describe the 52508 in words a buyer can act on, and do not let a template carry the 127334's language onto it.

One needs sizing, the other needs stock

The 127334 comes on a bracelet and the 52508 on a strap. They are different jobs at resale: a bracelet has to be sized and its removed links kept with the watch, because a buyer who receives it short of links has received an incomplete watch. A strap is a consumable — check whether the one on the wrist is the one that should be in the photographs.

Different movements to verify and to service

The 127334 runs the Calibre 7135, Manufacture Rolex and the 52508 the Calibre 7140, manufacture Rolex. Two consequences at intake: the service history that is normal for one calibre is not evidence about the other, and the calibre is the check that catches a movement swapped into the wrong case. Confirm the movement matches the reference rather than assuming it from the dial.

What to check on each

127334

  • Inspect the transparent case back closely, including its anti-reflective coating. It is unusual on an Oyster case, it faces the wrist, and marks on it are both visible and awkward to remedy.
  • Check the honeycomb dial texture is even across the whole surface and under the markers. A textured dial shows handling damage and moisture marking far more readily than a flat one.
  • Confirm the movement is the 7135 with a Syloxi hairspring rather than one of the Parachrom calibres. The 66-hour reserve belongs to this movement family, not the 70-hour ones.

52508

  • Inspect the transparent case back for scratches and for the condition of its anti-reflective coating. It is a display window on the wrist side, it is the first Rolex case back here you can actually see through, and a marked one is immediately noticeable.
  • Check the crown is the domed, non-screw-down type this reference specifies. Trying to screw down a crown that was never designed to screw down is a way to damage the stem and the case tube.
  • Treat the 50 metre rating as the real constraint it is. This is the least water-resistant watch in this corpus by some margin and should be kept away from water entirely.
