TUDOR Northflag M9140G1A0U-0001: specifications and what to check

An integrated-bracelet GMT with a 12mm lug width, which is the number that defines ownership of it: there is no strap market here, so the bracelet is effectively part of the watch.

What to check before you buy

  • Treat a damaged bracelet as close to terminal. A 12mm integrated lug width means there is no aftermarket strap to fall back on, so the bracelet is not a replaceable accessory here.
  • Sight along the integrated end links where they meet the case. Any gap or misalignment is immediately visible on this design and cannot be hidden by a strap change.
  • Set the GMT hand through a full 24 hours and confirm it tracks the graduated rehaut correctly at both ends of the range.
  • Inspect the open caseback crystal for hairlines. It is sapphire, it is exposed on the wrist side, and a marked one is both visible and awkward to replace.
  • Check the rapid-adjust clasp holds its setting under load rather than creeping, since an integrated bracelet gives you no other way to fine-tune the fit.

Twelve millimetres changes everything

The specification that matters most on this reference is the one most easily overlooked: a 12mm lug width on an integrated two-link bracelet. That is not a strap size. It is a statement that the bracelet and the case were designed as one object.

For a dealer, the consequences are practical and expensive. A stretched, scratched or incomplete bracelet cannot be solved by fitting something else, because there is nothing else to fit. Any watch of this type should be valued as case-plus-bracelet, with the bracelet weighted far more heavily than you would on a conventional 20mm lug watch.

Missing links are the same problem in miniature. Confirm the sizing works for the buyer you have before you commit.

A GMT built in, not bolted on

TUDOR describes the MT5652-U as carrying an integrated GMT function, and the dial is laid out for it with a 24-hour graduated rehaut. Certification is both COSC and METAS.

Run the complication properly on inspection rather than glancing at it. A GMT hand that drifts against the rehaut, or fails to track cleanly through a full rotation, is a movement fault rather than a setting quirk, and it is the sort of thing that surfaces after a sale rather than before.

An exposed sapphire caseback

The open caseback with a domed sapphire crystal is an unusual choice on a sports watch and an inspection point most people skip. It faces the wrist, it is glass, and it collects hairlines from desk edges and buckles.

Look at it off the wrist under light. Replacing a marked display back is not a catastrophe, but it is a cost, and it is invisible in every photograph a seller will send you.

Rated for splashes, not diving

100 metres and a fixed bezel. This is not a dive watch and does not pretend to be one, but it sits in a catalogue full of watches that are — so describe it precisely rather than borrowing language from elsewhere in the range.
