What the differences cost you

Each note below follows from the published figures in the tables above — what they mean for intake, for a listing, and for the handover. Nothing here estimates a price or a margin.

These reach different buyers

44 mm on the 136660 against 41 mm on the 124060. Diameter is a poor predictor of how a watch actually sits, but it is the field buyers filter on, so the two land in front of different people. Do not let one listing's photographs or copy stand in for the other.

Do not describe these the same way

3,900 metres on the 136660 against 300 on the 124060 — not a variation on the same watch but a different class of one, built around a case and crystal designed for depth. Expect different buyers, different questions, and a different service conversation. Never carry the 136660's rating into the 124060's listing.

Different movements to verify and to service

The 124060 runs the Calibre 3230, Manufacture Rolex and the 136660 the Calibre 3235, Manufacture Rolex. Two consequences at intake: the service history that is normal for one calibre is not evidence about the other, and the calibre is the check that catches a movement swapped into the wrong case. Confirm the movement matches the reference rather than assuming it from the dial.

What to check on each

124060

  • Confirm the crystal has no Cyclops and the dial no aperture. Both absences are correct for this reference and neither is a fault.
  • Check the calibre is the 3230 rather than the 3235 used in the date model. The two are different movements and quoting the wrong one is an avoidable error.
  • Work the Glidelock extension through every position and confirm each one holds under a firm pull.

136660

  • Locate the helium escape valve on the case side and confirm it is present and undamaged. It is a functional valve, not a decoration, and it appears on no other Rolex documented here.
  • Examine the domed crystal's edge under raking light. Rolex specifies it at 5.5 mm thick, which makes it the tallest and most exposed sapphire in this corpus, and sapphire chips rather than scratching.
  • Run the Glidelock extension out and back through its full travel. It is a toothed adjustment inside the clasp, it is the mechanism most used on a dive bracelet, and a worn one slips under load.
