Breitling against OMEGA

Breitling AB0138241C1P1 vs OMEGA 310.30.42.50.01.001

14 published specifications differ between these two. Every figure below is what the manufacturer states for that reference; nothing is inferred from the other watch.

Stated for one, not the other

These rows cannot be compared, because one maker publishes the figure and the other does not. An empty cell is a gap in the manufacturer's documentation, not a gap in the watch — and not a licence to fill it in from the other column.

What the differences cost you

Each note below follows from the published figures in the tables above — what they mean for intake, for a listing, and for the handover. Nothing here estimates a price or a margin.

You will have to measure one of these

Lug to lug is published for the 310.30.42.50.01.001 but not for the AB0138241C1P1. It is the figure that actually predicts fit, so measure the AB0138241C1P1 yourself with callipers and say in the listing that the number is your own measurement, not the maker's.

Do not describe these the same way

The AB0138241C1P1 is rated to 30 metres and the 310.30.42.50.01.001 to 50. A rating is a factory figure for a new watch with fresh gaskets, not a promise about a used one — but the gap still matters in writing. Describe the AB0138241C1P1 in words a buyer can act on, and do not let a template carry the 310.30.42.50.01.001's language onto it.

Two different ownership conversations

The AB0138241C1P1 is self-winding and the 310.30.42.50.01.001 is hand-wound. That changes what a buyer needs telling at handover, and it changes intake: a hand-wound watch has no rotor to mask a tired mainspring, and a stopped quartz watch is usually a battery rather than a fault.

One survives the weekend and one does not

70 hours on the AB0138241C1P1 against 50 on the 310.30.42.50.01.001. Below about sixty hours a watch left off the wrist from Friday is stopped by Monday. Wind both fully at intake and confirm they reach the stated figure — a short reserve leaves a tired barrel nowhere to hide, and it is the kind of fault a buyer reports in week two.

What to check on each

AB0138241C1P1

  • Tell the buyer the water resistance is 3 bars before the watch ships. That is 30 metres with a crown that does not screw down, and a buyer who assumes a chronograph is a swimming watch will find out at your expense.
  • Turn the slide rule bezel through a full revolution and check it moves freely in both directions without slipping. It is bidirectional by design here, and a computation bezel that binds has lost its function.
  • Run the chronograph for a full twelve hours and read all three registers. This calibre records quarter seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours, so a shorter test only exercises part of the mechanism.

310.30.42.50.01.001

  • Identify the crystal before anything else. Hesalite is a plastic: it scratches easily, polishes out with a cloth and compound, and carries a small OMEGA logo etched at its centre. A sapphire crystal on this case means you are looking at a different reference number.
  • Do not treat scratches on a Hesalite crystal as damage in the way you would on sapphire. They are expected and largely removable, and pricing them as permanent faults misreads the material.
  • Check the 3861 is what is fitted. The Moonwatch has used several calibres across its history, and the Master Chronometer 3861 is the current one — papers and caseback should agree.
