A themed edition, which changes what you are actually selling: the packaging and the paperwork carry more weight here than on a standard reference.

What to check before you buy
- Establish what came in the box and photograph all of it. On a themed edition the presentation packaging is part of what a buyer is paying for, and an incomplete set is worth materially less than a complete one.
- Check the published jewel count of 40 against whatever the seller has written. Breitling lists this calibre with three different jewel counts across the references documented here, so a mismatch means somebody copied a spec sheet from another watch.
- Confirm there is no date aperture. Unlike the other Breitling chronographs here, this reference has no calendar line on its page, and an inspector working from a general spec sheet may query a correct watch.
- Inspect the red dial for fading, especially near the edges under the crystal. Saturated colours are the first to shift with light exposure and a faded panel cannot be restored.
- Treat the crown as push-pull and say so. At 100 metres with a non screw-locked crown, the seal depends entirely on the crown being fully home.
A themed edition is a different product
Mechanically this is a Breitling 01 chronograph in a 41 mm steel case: 28,800 v.p.h, approximately 70 hours, quarter seconds with 30-minute and 12-hour totalisers, 40 jewels.
Commercially it is something else, and the difference matters at the buy.
Breitling sells this reference as a Chevrolet Corvette edition. Editions built around a theme are bought by people who care about the theme, and those buyers expect the whole object: the specific packaging it shipped in, the documentation, and whatever additional material came with it.
So before you agree a number, find out exactly what exists. Photograph every piece of it. A complete set and a loose watch are not the same product, and the gap between them is wider on an edition than it is on a standard reference where a replacement box is a commodity.
If the set is incomplete, say what is missing rather than staying quiet. The buyer who wants this watch is precisely the buyer who will notice.
Forty jewels — check the number you are given
Breitling publishes this movement as Breitling 01 (Manufacture), and across the references documented on this site that name appears with 47, 41 and, here, 40 jewels.
There is no point speculating about why. The useful discipline is simpler: take the figure from the reference's own page, not from another watch's.
If a seller's description quotes a different count, that tells you they built the listing from a spec sheet belonging to a different model — which is worth knowing before you trust anything else in it.
No calendar line on the sheet
The other Breitling chronographs documented here list Calendar: dial aperture. This reference's page does not carry that line.
Check the watch in front of you and check the photographs: there should be no date window. That is correct for this reference, not an omission, and knowing it in advance stops you querying a good example or, worse, describing a date this watch does not have.
A red dial and what light does to it
The dial is red.
Saturated colours fade, and they fade unevenly — hardest where light reaches most, which on a watch means the outer band of the dial near the crystal edge rather than the centre.
Take the watch to a window and look across the dial at a shallow angle, then turn it through a full rotation. You are looking for a ring of slightly lighter colour around the perimeter, or one sector paler than the rest from a watch that sat in the same position in a display case for years.
It cannot be corrected. It is also nearly invisible in a photograph taken under even studio light, so it is one of the faults most likely to arrive as a complaint rather than be caught at the buy.
Case and crown
41 mm across, 13.3 mm thick, a fixed bezel, cambered sapphire glareproofed both sides, and a screwed-in sapphire case back showing the movement.
Water resistance is 10 bars — 100 metres — with a non screw-locked crown with two gaskets. A hundred metres is a real rating, but only with the crown pressed fully home; there is no thread to secure it. Mention that to the buyer, and check on inspection that nobody has tried to screw it down.
The strap is black calfskin, 20/18 mm, on 20 mm lugs, with an 18 mm stainless steel folding clasp.
